“It is exceptional to see landscape paintings that are as evocative as those by
Sheryl Budnik....Like those of Joseph William Mallord Turner, Budnik’s paintings
exhibit a kind of frenetic handling of the paint. The surfaces are thick..often scraped down,
and built-up....they are....allied with the works of Albert Pinkham Ryder or Emil Nolde.
Budnik’s paintings are surprisingly challenging because of their dynamic
surfaces, and

Water holds the the greatest of magic for me.
Life is a liquid brew.
I grew up in the Midwest, near ponds and woods, close to the Great Lakes.
I paint the ocean now — while visiting friends near the Atlantic coast.
Travels have brought me other great and interesting waters.
With passion and intuition — oil pigments, brush and knives — I paint this Water I love.
Turner, Ryder, and Monet guide me — Soutine and the Expressionists infuse my artistic vision.
